Qatari stocks resumed weekly trading on a positive note when the Qatar Stock Exchange (QSE) opened for trading after the Eid Al Adha holidays in the country.
The QSE main index increased 0.47 percent to close at 9,411.83 points during the week that saw only two trading sessions due to Eid Al Adha holidays.
Market capitalisation increased by 0.6 percent to reach QR550.8 billion as compared to QR547.7 billion at the end of the previous week.
Trading value during the shortened trading week decreased by 42.6 percent to reach QR967.6 million against QR1.686 billion in the previous week.
QNB Group was the top value traded stock during the week with total traded value of QR118.3 million.
Trading volume decreased by 56.3 percent to reach 458.4 million shares against 1.048 billion shares in the previous week.
The number of transactions also declined by 39.6 percent to reach 21,604 against 35,763 in the previous week.
Qatar First Bank was the best performing stock for the week, with a gain of 10
percent.
On the other hand, Qatar German Company for Medical Devices was the worst performing stock with a decline of 5.2 percent.
Industries Qatar, QNB Group and Barwa Real Estate Company were the primary contributors to the weekly index gain.
Industries Qatar was the largest contributor to the index’s weekly performance, adding 28.0 points to the index.
QNB was the second biggest contributor to the gain, tacking on 12.9 points to the index.
Moreover, BRES contributed 6.5 points to the overall index.
Baladna was the top volume traded stock during the week with total traded volume of 48.1 million shares.
Of the 46 traded companies, 26 companies ended the week higher.
While 16 stocks fell, there was no change in the stock prices of the remaining four companies.
The week also saw five of the seven sector indices close in the positive territory.
The industrial sector, which went up 1.18 percent, was the best performing sector index for the week.
The bank and financial services sector that increased 0.82 percent was also instrumental in lifting the main
index higher.
