Two hundred more mosques across the country will reopen on Friday to bring the number of mosques available to worshippers to 400, Director of the Mosques Department at the Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs (Awqaf) Mohammed bin Hamad Al Kuwari has announced
Kuwari said the new step would complete the process of reopening the mosques in line with the various stages decided by the Supreme Committee for Crisis Management.
From tomorrow (Friday), these mosques will be opened to join the other 200 mosques which were opened at the beginning of the third stage of lifting of restrictions imposed to curb the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19).
According to him, the reopening of the mosques in Qatar went through several stages, as 500 mosques were opened to perform prayers in the first stage on June 15, with an emphasis on adherence to health requirements, while the second phase on July 1 saw 300 mosques opened.
The third stage was announced on July 28, when 300 mosques were opened to perform the obligatory prayers, and Eid prayers were held on July 31 at 400 mosques, while Friday prayers were held on July 31 at 200 mosques.
On Friday, July 8 (tomorrow), 200 mosques will be opened for Friday prayers, bringing the total number to 400.
Kuwari said, “We can also confirm that these mosques will be reopened according to the same precautionary procedures applied in all mosques. On this occasion, we extend our thanks to all imams and worshipers who cooperated with us throughout the past period in applying the precautionary measures completely and smoothly, which contributed to the continuation of prayers according to safety rules. We acknowledge that the continuation of this commitment helps us to reopen all mosques, God willing. We also thank all the authorities of the state that He added, “The Ministry has launched a special website to help worshippers to search for mosques easily by region and geographical location. We have also published lists of mosques on our social media accounts, and the ministry is also keen to provide continuous awareness-raising messages on all our platforms on social media, as well as circulating these educational materials to all mosques.”
