Manila Two Filipinos were killed and 11 are missing after two massive explosions in the Lebanese capital of Beirut, the Philippines’ foreign ministry said on Wednesday.
Eight Filipinos were also wounded in the blasts that occurred at the city’s port on Tuesday, said Ed Menez, spokesman for the Department of Foreign Affairs. All victims were in their employers’ houses during the explosions, he said. “The Philippine embassy is in touch with the Filipino community in Lebanon to assess the situation and provide assistance to any affected Filipinos,” the department said in a statement. Some 33,000 Filipinos live and work in Lebanon, with 75 percent of them staying in the greater Beirut area, Menez said. (DPA)
