Al Shaqab Racing’s homebred Katara (Deep Impact) followed up on her impressive win at Kempton last time out with a runaway Listed victory in the British Stallion Studs EBF Chalice Stakes for fillies & mares at Newmarket on Saturday.
Trained by Sir Michael Stoute, the three-year-old filly looks to have an exciting year ahead having won this race, her first attempt at Stakes level, by four lengths. Partnered by jockey Oisin Murphy in the 2,400-metre contest on the July course, she traveled in mid-division and had the race well in hand when hitting the front 300 meters from the line.
This was her first attempt at this trip and she galloped all the way to the line, showing that there are no stamina doubts for this filly. Expressionism (Galileo) was the runner-up with Cosmic Princess (Kingman) finishing third.
Katara was bred by Al Shaqab racing in France at Haras de Bouquetot. She is by the late great Deep Impact and out of New Approach mare Asyad, a three-time winner herself for Al Shaqab Racing.
