His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalifa Al Thani’s Caracole Du Loup (Josco du Cayrou x Sirene Du Loup) landed her first victory, winning the Prix Maderba-Prix des Vignerons de Glanes (maiden) at Royan-La Palmyre in France on Sunday evening.
The four-year-old Purebred Arabian managed to put the 2,200-metre race for four-year-olds and older to bed by a very comfortable four and a half-length margin. The chestnut filly, who is trained by Francois Rohaut, had been the runner-up in a good race at Toulouse last time out.
It was Chafika (General), who led the race with a very steady pace while Caracole Du Loup, ridden by Damien Morin, sat in third position. Wearing blinkers, Caracole Du Loup showed a nice turn of foot in the straight, overhauling the leader and taking the lead with ease, especially considering the four-kilo weight penalty.
Chafika, the pacesetter, who is trained by Damien de Watrigant, finished in second under Laurie Foulard.
Bahjah (Majd Al Arab), who is trained by Charles Gourdain, was further three quarters of a length behind in third under Clement Merille.
Bred by Jean-Marc Saphores, Caracole Du Loup is the sister of Faucon Du Loup (Darweesh), champion in Russia and Gr1 P/A winner. She comes from the famous French dam line of NEVADA II (Djanor).
