Dr Mohammed Fawaz, a 24-year-old doctor and an alumnus of the MES Indian School Doha, who works at the department of surgery and is doing his post-graduation in medicine at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi, was in the limelight recently when he stabilised a critically ill patient with his timely act of donating blood, in the absence of a suitable donor, before performing the surgery.
The 30-year-old patient, who was suffering from septic shock due to an infection in his lower left leg, was in urgent need of blood and the patient’s family could not reach the hospital. Doctor Fawaz wasted no time and promptly donated blood to the patient and later operated on him. This lifesaving act reached far and wide and has been much appreciated by all.
“The patient came with his wife, who was not physically fit to donate blood. I wanted to take him to the operation theatre and remove the infected parts so that he can be stabilised. We couldn’t wait for his attendants to reach the hospital, so I decided to donate blood and get a few more units from the blood bank,” said Dr Fawaz while talking to the media.
Dr Fawaz passed out from the MES in 2011 with flying colours.
“MES inculcates moral values and good manners in children, besides infusing a sense of responsibility and humanity in them,” said Mohd Kareem, father of Dr Fawaz, in a mail to the school.
