MORE than 500 Filipino expats received food assistance on the first day of distribution of food coupons held on Sunday, in line with the Qatar government’s initiative ‘Our Eid as One’.
The campaign is aimed at providing humanitarian service for those members of various expat communities, who have been affected by the disruptions due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic on the occasion of Eid Al-Adha.
During the campaign, food coupons were made available to expats in need through the joint efforts of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA), the Ministry of Interior (MoI) and the Ministry of Administrative Development, Labour and Social Affairs (MADLSA), in association with Qatar Charity (QC).
According to Filipino community leader Engineer Henry Dimaano, the campaign has received overwhelming response from his compatriots since the announcement of registration.
Out of thousands of applicants, about 2,250 has been approved by the authorities to benefit from the initiative, he added.
“On behalf of the Filipino community, I would like to thank the Qatar government for this second round of food assistance to the expat communities. During this time of crisis, this gesture of kindness and generosity on the part of the host country really mean a lot to the residents. Many Filipino expats have already expressed their appreciation for the initiative and we look forward to the successful implementation of the programme,” said Dimaano.
Dimaano, with some of the volunteers from the community, met with the registrants in three branches of Al Meera Supermarkets located in Al Hilal, Al Wajba and Al Wakra to ensure the smooth flow of the drive. The distribution of food coupons to approved registrants will continue until August 14.
