IN its continuing efforts to enrich teachers’ knowledge, the Science India Forum-Qatar (SIF-Q) organised an informative webinar on the topic ‘Competency Based Learning and Challenges in Teaching Science Online’. Principals of Ideal Indian School (IIS) and Birla Public School (BPS) conducted the interactive session.
IIS Principal Syed Shoukath Ali discussed at length the scientific approach to teaching science at the webinar. He also touched upon the various aspects of brain functioning, highlighting its vital role in developing competency in a learner. He also emphasised the need for learner-based education, calling for right attitude, knowledge and skills to achieve competence.
For his part, BPS Principal AP Sharma discussed the challenges of teaching science in the times of coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic and also explained how to maintain effective teaching. He stressed the importance of observation in aiding the process of learning in a student.
Sharing various simulation lab resources and some home-based science resources with teachers, Sharma demonstrated how explaining science concepts commonly taught in school could be made interactive and interesting for the learners.
The interactive session concluded with a Q & A session wherein the speakers addressed the questions raised by the participating teachers. The webinar was attended by 425 teachers from schools across Qatar. The webinar was streamed live through SIF-Q’s Facebook page and would be made available on its YouTube channel.
