The Qatar Debate Center, a member of Qatar Foundation (QF), organised an online training workshop aimed at enhancing debating skills of the students of Dar Al-Huda Islamic University in the southern Indian State of Kerala via Zoom application recently.
The workshop, which saw the participation of 47 students in the age group of 17-23 years, was part of the centre’s plans to train the students on the basics of debating and raise the level of the debaters at the university and the colleges affiliated to it.
The programme took into account the varying
levels of participants, and the trainees were divided into two groups supervised by trainers of the centre Lotfi Baraka and Gaber Abu Hemid.
The programme of the workshop included a number of skills and training activities on various debating issues and how to employ them in the right way. It also focused on the various methods of analysis and the tasks of the two teams within the debate through applications that enhanced the theoretical content of building the position of the parties, and the argument and the steps of refutation.
Baraka said: “The workshops, that are offered to students in Arabic language, seeks to inform them of the importance of Arabic as individuals from different countries. Moreover, they also want to debate and express their thoughts and opinions through it.”
As for the students, their response and enthusiasm for the debate broke the barrier of the lack of mastery of Arabic, and they were making great efforts to express their opinions, giving the workshop a distinctive atmosphere.
At the end of the workshop, the students expressed their happiness in learning new concepts related to the art of debating in Arabic language, and requested for more workshops to be held in the future.
The Qatar Debate Center continues promoting the art of debating locally and internationally, as a guide to engaging in logical discussion on issues that are subject to controversy and debate in order to reach an accordant vision after presenting convincing arguments and clear proofs.
