The sale of subsidised sheep to citizens for Eid Al Adha festivities began on Monday under the initiative launched by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MoCI), in cooperation with the Ministry of Municipality and Environment and the Widam Food Company.
The sale is within the framework of the joint national initiative to encourage local production, subsidise sheep meat prices and create a balance in supply and demand that contributes to reducing price in the markets.
Starting from Monday, sheep will be sold at subsidised prices until August 2 — the third day of Eid Al Adha.
In a statement, the MoCI said it was agreed with the Widam Food Company to provide approximately 12,000 heads of Arab sheep, 3,000 local and 9,000 Syrian sheep, to be sold at subsidised and discounted prices for citizens at QR1,000 for the local sheep (35 kg and more) and QR 950 for Syrian sheep (45 kg or more).
The sale will take place at Widam slaughterhouses in Al Wakrah, Al Shamal, Al Khor, Al Mazroua and Al Sheehaniya.
This initiative targets Qatari citizens only who should present their ID card to complete the sale, the buyer must be at least 20 years old. Only one head of sheep is allowed in to order to reach the target group.
The ministry called on citizens to adhere to precautionary and preventive measures to limit the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19) in order to preserve the health and safety of all members of society.Sale will continue until August 2
