The Qatari agricultural product yards -- Al Mazroua, Al Khor and Al Thakhira, Al Wakrah, Al Shamal and Al Shahaniya -- concluded the 2019-2020 season activities with record sales of about 16,035 tonnes of local agricultural produce.
The season, which ran from mid-March to the end of June 2020, saw Al Mazroua yard taking the lead with 7,834 tonnes sales, followed by Al Khor and Al Thakhira yard with 3,650 tonnes sales. Fruit recorded significant sales amounting to about 6,253 tonnes, as Al-Wakra yard took the lead with about 2,111 tonnes sales.
The season in its eighth consecutive edition also recorded significant sales of other produce, including 84 tonnes of fish, 35,000 poultry, 14,000 sheep and goats, 22,000 eggs and 3.6 tonnes of natural honey.
The report showed that the season witnessed a significant increase in sales compared to the previous years, as the sales of local vegetables increased by more than 120 percent compared to the last season, fruit sales increased by 13 percent, eggs by 24 percent, natural honey 43 percent and sheep 18 percent.
