THE Shura Council on Wednesday participated in an international parliamentary conference held via video conferencing on accelerating efforts towards realising the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) amid the COVID-19 epidemic. The conference was held on the sidelines of the United Nations High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF).
Discussions during the forum, in which experts and parliamentary figures from different countries of the world participated, focused on how to mobilise much-needed resources for health care, social protection and environmental preservation.
It also explored the possibilities of achieving better economic compatibility between the green economy and environmental sustainability, and redistributing income and wealth to make economies more sustainable and ensuring well-being for all, by reforming the trade and investment system in the global economy.
The Shura Council was represented in this forum by HE Mohamed bin Abdulla Al Abd Al Ghani, HE Abdulaziz bin Mohammed Al Attiyah and HE Mohammed bin Ali Al Henzab, members of the Council.
Meanwhile, the Shura Council also participated in a meeting held via videoconferencing titled ‘Virtual Round Table: Universal Health Coverage: Bridging the Screening Gap for Women’, which involved the Foundation for Innovative New Diagnostics (FIND) and Women in Global Health (WGH).
The meeting discussed a number of topics that concern women in the world, including how to provide women with the highest levels of healthcare, the obstacles preventing women and girls from obtaining the necessary medical examinations, and how to fix health systems of countries by including medical examinations for women in budgets and health services.
The Shura Council was represented in the meeting by HE Reem bint Mohammed Al Mansoori, a member of the council and ambassador of the Women Political Leaders in the State of Qatar.
