Speaker of the Shura Council HE Ahmed bin Abdullah bin Zaid Al Mahmoud, who is also president of the Global Organization of Parliamentarians Against Corruption (GOPAC), on Tuesday chaired the organisation’s executive committee meeting via video conference. The meet was held to discuss future activities of the organisation and evaluate the measures it aims to pursue to achieve its objectives in collaboration with world parliaments and other international organisations focused on fighting corruption.
At the start of the meeting, the Shura speaker stressed the important role that the organisation must play in protecting public money and in enhancing transparency and the rule of law in order to serve sustainable development in countries around the world.
The speaker of the Shura Council also highlighted the leading role of Qatar in the fight against corruption and commended the decision of the Amir His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani to award the Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani Anti-Corruption Excellence Award, which coincides with the International Anti-Corruption Day on December 9 of each year.
