The PSA data, however, showed that a decrease of 3.41 percent has been recorded in CPI for June this year when compared with the CPI for June last year. This CPI for June, which is the sixth issuance using the new base of 2018, is calculated from the results of the household income and expenditure survey.
An analysis of the monthly data of CPI for June compared with CPI for May this year shows that there are five main groups where respective indices in this month have increased. ‘Transport’ index increased by 3.22 percent, food and beverages by 2.52 percent, miscelleneous goods and services by 0.74 percent, furniture and household equipment by 0.06 percent, and education by 0.01 percent.
A decrease has been recorded in ‘recreation and culture’ by 6.06 percent, and ‘clothing and footwear’ by 0.62 percent.
The groups of ‘tobacco’, ‘housing, water, electricity and other fuel’, ‘health’, ‘communication’, and ‘restaurants and hotels’ had remained flat at the last month’s price level.
This price decrease on annual basis was primarily due to the prices decline seen in seven groups namely ‘recreation and culture’ by 16.17 percent, ‘clothing and footwear’ by 4.85 percent, ‘transport’ by 4.56 percent, ‘housing, water, electricity and other fuel’ by 3.62 percent, ‘communication’ by 3.26 percent, ‘food and beverages’ by 0.70 percent, and ‘furniture and household equipment’ by 0.39 percent.
