Muhammad Ibrahim, aged 12, is an upcoming and promising poet. A student of Doha College going into year 8, he is originally from Pakistan. His family moved to Qatar from England five years ago. His father, Shakeel Ahmad is a family medicine consultant who has a strong passion for Urdu poetry. Inspired by his father, Ibrahim has decided to write poetry at his tender age. “My father has a sincere passion for poetry in Urdu and has passed down that same passion to me,” said Ibrahim, who has recently penned a poem titled ‘Isolation (COVID-19)’ to pay tribute to those who are undergoing self-isolation in the face of the coronavirus pandemic.
“Like most children, I was inspired by my father. Only this time it was to venture through the depths of poetry. Poetry has lured me into it through the help of my beloved father. It has helped me express my thoughts and feelings onto paper, in a way that is harmonic and rhythmic. Poetry is a beautiful art, one that cures both stress as well as depression. However, on the other hand, isolation ignites both of these cancers, leaving people broken. Combining these two things led me to an idea of writing a poem on ordeal of isolation,” remarked Ibrahim.
Isolation (COVID-19)
by Muhammad Ibrahim
I showed a symptom of Covid 19,
But now it’s gone away,
I feel fine more than ever,
But still I have to stay,
I am stuck up in my room,
Boredom overwhelming me,
I can’t even touch my family,
How can I live happily,
They put me in isolation,
Man I can’t handle this separation,
Been a long time and I aint seen my friends,
Can’t wait to jump in the back of that benz,
All I wanna do is Netflix and chill,
But my mum keeps nagging me ‘take that pill’,
I am stuck up in my room binge-watching YouTube,
I’ve got nothing better to do than solve a Rubik’s cube,
Damn, the temptation is killing me,
I can’t even touch my own family,
How am I supposed to live happily,
Isolation is a tra-tra-tragedy,
I showed a symptom of Covid 19,
But now it’s gone away,
I feel fine more than ever,
But still I have to stay,
I am stuck up in my room,
Boredom overwhelming me,
I can’t even touch my family,
How can I live happily,
I’m in my room,
Talking to my friends on zoom,
Boredom overwhelming me,
It’s time for me to be free,
But I need Harry Potter’s broom,
To fly out the window in my room,
I’ll do it at night,
And not in daylight,
So my parents can’t see,
When it’s time for me to flee,
Cuz a hard time it has been,
And I’m not even a teen,
And I may have COVID-19,
But I’m focusing on my deen,
It’s been a long time and I haven’t seen,
My PS4 screen,
Where I’m the king and my bro’s the queen.
I showed a symptom of COVID-19,
But now it’s gone away,
I feel fine more than ever,
But still I have to stay,
I’m stuck up in my room,
Boredom overwhelming me,
I can’t even touch my family,
How can I live happily,
Isolation is a tragedy,
May Allah protect everybody.
