Doha
beIN SPORTS is set to welcome the return of UEFA Champions League starting Friday, August 7 with a host of much-anticipated live games for viewers to enjoy exclusively across the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) with heavyweights Real Madrid, Barcelona, Juventus and Paris Saint Germain in action competing for the coveted trophy.
The Union of European Football Association (UEFA) decided that the most prestigious European club football competition (the UEFA Champions League) will safely resume starting from August 7 – after it was put on hold following the COVID-19 global pandemic.
In a completely new format unlikely to ever be replicated, viewers and fans will get to see the best teams in Europe competing against each other over 90 minutes in just over two weeks of football (7 August to 23 August).
A total of 11 thrilling matches will be played in just 16 days – with the quarter-finals, semi-finals and final all played in Portugal and in single-leg fixtures.
Remaining R16 Fixtures
Four matches remain in the round of 16 second leg of the UEFA Champions League.
On Friday 7 August, Real Madrid will face Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City in a heated matchup between the two. The sky blues won the first leg in Madrid 1-2 thanks to goals from their Brazilian striker Gabriel Jesus and playmaker Kevin De Bruyne.
Also on 7 August, Lyon will face Juventus. The first match between the two was played on 26 February and ended with a 1-0 win for Lyon thanks to a goal from Lucas Tousart.
Cristiano Ronaldo’s Juventus will want to win the match to qualify and compete for their third UEFA Champions League trophy.
On Saturday, August 8, Premier League club Chelsea will face German champions Bayern Munich. The first match between the two ended in a disappointing 0-3 defeat for the Blues – but Frank Lampard will want his team to be fearless and try their absolute best to qualify for the quarter-finals.
Lionel Messi’s Barcelona will also face Serie A’s Napoli on Saturday, August 8. The first match between the two ended 1-1. A 1-0 win will be enough for the Catalans to qualify for the quarter-finals.
The QF draw
The 2019/20 UEFA Champions League quarter-finals, semi-finals and final will be played as a straight knockout tournament in Lisbon, Portugal.
All the ties will be single-leg fixtures with games played between Benfica’s Estadio do Sport Lisboa e Benfica (which will host the final) and Sporting CP & Estadio Jose Alvalade.
On Wednesday, August 12, Italian club Atalanta will face French heavyweights Paris Saint Germain in the first quarter-final match.
On Thursday, Germany’s RB Leipzig take on Spanish giants Atletico Madrid in a heated matchup between the two teams – as both outfits look to qualify to the semi-finals for a chance to win their first ever UEFA Champions League trophy.
On Friday, the winners between Napoli and Barcelona will face the winners between Chelsea and Bayern Munich.
On Saturday, the winners between Real Madrid and Manchester City will face the winners between Lyon and Juventus. If both Real Madrid and Juventus qualify, it will be Ronaldo’s first game against his former club in the UEFA Champions League.
beIN SPORTS’ main studio coverage for UEFA Champions League will be on beIN SPORTS HD1 and HD2 for Arabic; beIN SPORTS HD11 and HD12 for English; and beIN SPORTS HD14 for French; as well as beIN SPORTS’ 4K channel.
Each game will also be available with an option for enhanced audio atmosphere.
beIN guests and talent will include Egyptian legends Mohamed Aboutrika and Wael Gomaa; Algerian expert Lakhdar Berriche; Tunisian football legend Tariq Dhiab; former Moroccan football star Yousef Chippo; and many others.
Commenting on the return of the UEFA Champions League on beIN SPORTS, Jonathan Whitehead, Head of Sports for beIN MENA, said: “We are delighted to welcome back the UEFA Champions League to our channels.
