At least 11 members of the Afghan intelligence department were killed in a Taliban car bombing in the northern Afghan province of Samangan, an official said on Monday.
The attack in the provincial capital city of Aybak wounded 65 more, provincial governor spokesman Mohammad Seddiq Azizi said.
According to Azizi, besides a suicide bomber - who exploded the vehicle - two more assailants were shot dead after two hours of exchanging fire with security forces.
Presidential spokesman Seddiq Seddiqi wrote on Twitter that President Ashraf Ghani condemned the attack, saying that killing people to gain more in peace talks is the “worst approach” that the Taliban has chosen.
Head of the Afghan High Council for National Reconciliation Dr Abdullah Abdullah said in a statement that the surge in violence was against promises made for the beginning of intra-Afghan talks.
The explosives-packed vehicle was detonated at the gate of the intelligence agency’s provincial department close to the city centre, officials said.
