Tehran A petrochemical complex in south-western Iran exploded and erupted into flames on Sunday, the country’s ISNA news agency reported.
The blaze occurred at the Shahid Tondgooyan plant in the city of Mahshahr. The cause had yet to be determined, although authorities suspect an oil leak was to blame, the report said.
Iranian media gave no information about possible victims or the extent of the damage.
There have recently been several mysterious explosions and fires in Iran, often at sensitive sites. The locations included the Parchin military complex near Tehran, a medical clinic north of the capital, the Nantanz nuclear facility in central Iran, and most recently a factory in a Tehran suburb.
