The Police Training Institute (PTI) at the Ministry of Interior (MoI) and the Customs Training Center at the General Authority of Customs (GAC) on Sunday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on exchanging experiences in training fields.
The memorandum aims to enhance cooperation in training specialties and benefit from academic curricula and practical training provided by both sides.
The MoU was signed on behalf of the PTI by Major Ali Saud Al Hanzab, director of the Police Training Institute, and on behalf of Customs by Mubarak Ibrahim Al Buainain, director of the Customs Training Center.
Speaking on the occasion, Buainain said the signing of the memorandum of understanding comes as a complement to the national role played by each of the two parties and the importance of this in upgrading the professional level of employees of both sides and their important role in protecting customs ports.
He added that the MoU also aims to enhance cooperation in various training and consulting programmes, and to develop human capabilities in line with modern best practices in the area of detecting and combating smuggling.
Buainain said the cooperation between the two parties will contribute to raising the efficiency of the authority’s employees in tightening security and customs controls at the border posts, as well as enhancing their ability in the process of targeting shipments and luggage that may constitute a crime of smuggling or a threat to community security.
He said the memorandum of understanding will also provide qualitative and logistical support for the General Authority Customs’ staff with the distinguished experiences and international relations possessed by both parties to the memorandum.
The MoU includes detailed programmes aimed at raising the efficiency and capabilities of the human cadres working in both the Ministry of Interior and the General Authority of Customs to use radiological examination devices as
well as in the areas of combating the smuggling of drugs, weapons and ammunition, dual-use materials and other dangerous and prohibited materials.
There will also be joint coordination between the two sides in exchange of experiences, members of the training staff and specialsed researchers.
