The Indian Cultural Centre (ICC) recently organised a webinar for parents and school teachers on the ways to keep children safe on the internet, as education has moved to online owing to the COVID-19 restrictions.
Neelanjana Grover, a certified trainer and a training consultant from Mumbai, led the 90-minute webinar, which was attended by over 90 parents and teachers in Qatar.
“As education has moved to online due to the lockdown and stay at home, children are spending more time in the virtual world than ever before, raising concerns about their digital wellbeing,” Grover said.
She shared new evidence-based tips and tools on the ways to keep the children safe on the net. The workshop also addressed compelling questions regarding the media and its impact on children’s development, aiming at keeping children safe in the vast world of the internet and technology.
Grover elaborated on the screen time and conversations around it for all age groups, including the tiny tots, tweens and emerging adults, highlighting the methods to deal with issues like grooming, abuse and addiction, and false identities.
“With the entire world going virtual under the COVID-19 situation, screen time and duration can no longer be fixed, hence the challenges have to be looked at holistically including the child, the content and the context,” she said.
The programme which ended with a fruitful interaction between the attendees and the trainer.
ICC President Manikantan AP welcomed the attendees, assuring them of more such fruitful workshops in the coming period. Rajesh Singh, head of Finance at the ICC, was the host for the event. Cultural Coordinator Nirmala Shanmuga Pandian was the Master of Ceremonies for the Webinar.
