Bangkok Thai researchers said on Sunday they would begin testing a new coronavirus vaccine on humans from October following successful trials on animals.
A pharmaceutical company will begin producing doses of the trial vaccine in October for tests on humans, said Kiat Ruxrungtham, head of a coronavirus vaccine development program at Bangkok’s Chulalongkorn University.
Volunteers would be invited to register as test subjects between August and September, he said.
Doctors began testing the vaccine on monkeys in May following successful trials on mice.
Kiat said every monkey that had so far received the trial vaccine had shown an increased immune response to the virus.
Many countries around the world have joined the race to develop a viable coronavirus vaccine. (DPA)
