In an effort to address societal needs, Nestlé has donated 140,000 food and beverage servings to the Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS), for inclusion in parcels reaching some 1,600 families in need and labour workers in quarantined industrial areas.
The donation, implemented in line with Nestlé’s global collaboration with the International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) in its pandemic emergency efforts, includes dairy, soup, culinary products, coffee, rice, sugar, oil and lentils.
“Our priorities focus on three main objectives: 1. safeguarding the safety and wellbeing of our employees, our collaborators, business partners, and the communities we are a part of; 2. ensuring continued production and delivery of food and beverage products to help meet the nutritional needs of individuals and families; and 3. stepping up relief efforts to local communities,” said Zaher Abou Khamis, Nestlé’s General Business Manager in Qatar.
The local efforts are part of Nestlé mobilisations in the Middle East and North Africa supporting more than 30 entities in 17 countries, where the company has so far donated 10 million food and beverage servings as part of an ongoing donations campaign.
In addition, the company’s various divisions are contributing in their different expertise. Nestlé Professional, for example, continues to offer pragmatic support to its business partners in the hospitality industry, as they reopen to welcome back their customers. This is being done through its “Always Open for You” initiative, which benefited over 800 foodservice outlets in Qatar, with offerings including over 235,000 NESCAFE cups; payment term extensions; coffee machine rental fees suspensions; and provision of free products, trainings, marketing and other services.
“We care deeply for people and for the communities in which we operate, and always strive to remain true to our purpose of Enhancing Quality of Life and Contributing to a Healthier Future,” said Abou Khamis. “Food and beverages help keep people healthy and enhance their quality of life, and we want to meet our responsibility to provide good nutrition, especially for the most vulnerable in society.”
