The Indian Sports Centre (ISC) held a farewell ceremony for the outgoing Indian Ambassador to Qatar HE P Kumaran, recently.
During the meeting, the ambassador was briefed by Hasan Chougule, president of ISC, about the centre’s activities since 2019. Chougule thanked the envoy for supporting the community to establish the ISC as the 4th apex body under the aegis of the Indian Embassy. The ISC works to promote various sports and games among the Indian community and support Qatar in hosting the FIFA World Cup 2022 and other national and international sporting events.
Chougule informed HE Kumaran that the ISC has established a fixed deposit of QR300,000 as a ‘Reserve Fund’. The ambassador congratulated the president and his team for this measure.
M Habibun Nabi, general secretary of the ISC, appreciated the ambassador’s support for the ISC. “The ambassador himself is a very good sportsman. He has participated in cricket, football, table tennis and badminton games,”he said. “During community cricket tournaments, he was once declared as the Man of the Match and on another occasion the Best Bowler,” Nabi added.
EP Abdurahiman, vice-president of the ISC, appreciated the ambassador for providing guidance. “Within a short span of four years, ISC has become well recognised among the Indian community and also among the sports authorities in Qatar,” he said.
Members of the Executive Committee of the ISC -- Ravi, Safeer, Nisha, Ashique, Arun, Shivani and Sreenivas -- also spoke on the occasion.
HE P Kumran in his speech termed his tenure in Qatar as a fruitful and pleasant experience, adding he was very pleased with the activities of the ISC. He appreciated the way the ISC conducted various sports events and engaged the Indian community through sports. He thanked the former leaders of the ISC, including Nilangshu Dey, Bukhari, Dr Thomas and Azim, for their contribution to strengthening the ISC. He also thanked Capt. Kapil Kaushik, CO of ISC, for his able guidance to bringing the ISC to new heights.
