ROME: Italy closed its borders on Thursday to travellers from 13 countries, including Brazil, deeming them high-risk places for the spread of coronavirus infections.
The travel ban applies to Armenia, Bahrain, Bangladesh, Brazil, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Chile, Kuwait, Northern Macedonia, Moldova, Oman, Panama, Peru and the Dominican Republic, the Health Ministry said.
“Globally, the pandemic is in its most acute phase. We cannot jeopardise the sacrifices made by Italians in these months. This is why we have chosen the path of utmost caution,” Health Minister Roberto Speranza said. People who have stayed in or transited through these countries two weeks before entering Italy are to be blocked at the border, the ministry said. (DPA)
