THE Shura Council on Thursday participated in a parliamentary conference on the ‘Outbreak of COVID-19 Disease’, held by the Asian Parliamentary Assembly via video conferencing technology.
Discussions during the conference focused on the health and economic impact of the COVID-19, and the best practices for combating the pandemic; and reopening the Asian region in a sustainable and inclusive manner.
The Shura Council was represented at the meeting by HE Rashid bin Hamad Al Meadadi, member of the Council.
The Shura Council also took part in a webinar for parliamentarians entitled ‘Building back better: Lessons from the COVID-19 pandemic to enhance the role of parliaments in disaster risk reduction’, held by the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), in cooperation with the World Health Organization (WHO) and the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR).
Discussions during the webinar focused on best practices for disaster risk reduction in the world, and the development of several preventive strategies in the event of future disasters such as the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Shura Council was represented at the webinar by HE Abdulrahman bin Yousuf Al Khulaifi, member of the Council.
