Doha
Qatar participated in a video conference meeting on strengthening regional and international consensus on the Afghan peace process, which was opened by President of Afghanistan Dr Mohammad Ashraf Ghani with the participation of President of the Supreme Council for National Reconciliation Dr Abdullah Abdullah.
The meeting was chaired by Afghanistan’s Acting Foreign Minister Mohammad Hanif Atmar and attended by 20 countries and international organisations, including United Nations.
Special Envoy of Foreign Minister of Qatar for Counterterrorism and Mediation of Conflict Resolution HE Dr Mutlaq bin Majed Al Qahtani represented Qatar at the meeting.
The meeting reiterated the importance of strengthening regional and international consensus on Afghan peace process, starting Intra-Afghan talks, reducing violence and releasing prisoners in preparation for the transition to the stage of negotiations, which is expected to start in Doha this month.
