The Ministry of Municipality and Environment, represented by the Fish Resources Department, in cooperation with the General Directorate for Coastal and Border Security in the Ministry of Interior (MoI), has released 20,000 young hamour fish in the Qatari waters.
This is considered the first production of the Aquatic Research Center in Ras Matbakh.
The production and release of small-scale group is part of the fish stock enrichment programme that includes the production of locally cultivated fish of economic value to contribute to increasing the stocks of these species and thus positively reflect on production.
The Aquatic Research Center employed the latest resources, equipment and technical cadres to succeed in launching the young fish that are considered the first of a series of local production of many species that will follow. The young fish are released in habitats that are environmentally appropriate to their nature.
The programme aims to enrich the fish stock in order to support the farmed fish, especially the species whose stock is exposed to overfishing that threaten to deplete their number, in order to achieve a balance between the fishing quantities and the size of the fish stock.
