Nestlé has donated 140,000 food and beverage servings to the Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS), in an ongoing drive to address evolving societal needs, for inclusion in parcels to reach 1,600 needy families and labour workers in quarantined industrial areas.
The donation, made in accordance with Nestlé’s global collaboration with the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) in its emergency pandemic effort, comprised meat, milk, cooking items, chocolate, flour, sugar, oil and lentils.
“Our priorities are focused on three main objectives: 1. Safeguarding the safety and well-being of our employees, our customers, business associates and the societies to which we belong; 2. Ensuring continuous production and distribution of food and beverage products to help meet individual and family nutritional needs; and 3. Stepping up local community relief efforts,“ said Zaher Abou Khamis, Qatar’s General Business Manager at Nestlé.
Local efforts are part of Nestlé’s mobilisation in the Middle East and North Africa to support more than 30 entities in 17 countries, where the company has so far donated 10 million food and beverage services as part of the ongoing donation campaign.
In addition, the different divisions of the company contribute to their different expertise. For example, Nestlé Professional continues to offer pragmatic support to its business partners in the hospitality industry as they re-open to welcome their customers back. This is done through its ‘Always Open for You’ initiative, which has benefited more than 800 food service outlets in Qatar, with offerings including over 235,000 NESCAFE cups; extensions of payment terms; suspension of rental fees for coffee machines; and provision of free products, training, marketing and other services.
“We take great care of the people and communities in which we operate, and we always strive to remain true to our goal of improving the quality of life and contributing to a healthier future,” Abou Khamis added. “Food and drinks help to keep people healthy and improve their quality of life, and we want to fulfill our responsibility to provide good nutrition, especially for the most vulnerable in society.”
