Qatar Charity (QC) has provided 4,000 ready-to-eat meals donated by IKEA Qatar shop to those infected with coronavirus (COVID-19) at quarantine centres in Umm Salal and Al Mukaynis, in collaboration with the Ministry of Municipality and Environment.
Food distribution is part of Qatar Charity’s ongoing efforts to provide food and preventive supplies with the aim of contributing to contain coronavirus spread.
“As part of the efforts made by the Ministry of Municipality and Environment, represented by the Al-Daayen Municipality, to reduce coronavirus disease, the Awareness and Health Department provided full support and supervision to initiatives that contribute to helping those affected by the virus,” said Ahmed Matar Al Shammari, public health inspector at Al Daayen Municipality. Al Shammari also praised the support of the IKEA store and Qatar Charity for their efforts to extend support to those affected by the outbreak of COVID-19.
Alexey Sitkin, IKEA Qatar’s Store manager, said: “People care is one of IKEA’s values. We strive to support the competent authorities and the local community in any way possible during this difficult time. As part of its corporate social responsibility, IKEA Restaurant plays a key role in this by offering over 4,000 healthy food packages for the infected and needy.”
Abdulaziz Jassim, director of Customer Service Department at Qatar Charity, said: “Qatar Charity continues to distribute meals and food baskets to families with low incomes and those affected by the coronavirus pandemic.”
He added that Qatar Charity, as a civil society organisation and as part of its contribution to social programs, distributed food baskets to needy families and workers, as well as ready-to-eat meals for workers in different quarantine centers across the country. He also noted that this initiative, launched at the beginning of COVID-19, has received an overwhelming response from various institutions and companies in the country.
The director of Customer Service Department appreciated the contribution of the IKEA Qatar store by providing meals and sweets, calling on other companies to follow IKEA to help affected families and provide them with food baskets.
