The Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC) will conduct a research study on societal immunity against coronavirus (COVID-19) in Qatar, it has announced.
The study, according to the PHCC, will help to know the extent of the disease among the population of Qatar through people registered at the PHCC health centres.
Dr Hamda Kotba, director of Research at PHCC, said the samples chosen for the research study would be random and voluntary for anyone registered at the PHCC and can provide the information required to understand the spread of the coronavirus.
She said that in the event that the test was positive for the sample taken from those included in the study, the person concerned will be contacted with the same procedures that are taken with those infected with coronavirus and given instructions they must follow, whether it is with isolation at home or in one of the isolation places designated by the state.
As for the results of the blood analysis, the participants will be contacted with the research study to inform them about their immunity, the extent of their illness, and how well they recover from it, or they may not have been infected with it at all. (QNA)
For his part, Dr Mohamed Sayed, a public health research consultant at the Department of Clinical Research at PHCC, said the aim of the study is to know the people who are infected with the coronavirus and do not show symptoms, but they are present in the community without knowing that they are infected and therefore having the possibility of transmitting the virus to others.
The examination for this study will be in Qatar University Health Center, Al-Wajba Health Center and Al-Wakra Health Center.
