In another first of its kind in Qatar, Commercial Bank on Monday announced the launch of a digital product ‘CB PAY for Merchants’ in the Qatari market.
CB PAY for Merchants enables customers to pay for goods and services without leaving their homes using just their mobile. It is a dedicated mobile application that brings business owners, retailers, and merchants closer to their customers and makes settling payments an easy, worry-free process.
Merchants can initiate, receive, and track payments using the mobile app through two different options.
The first option enables the payment using mobile numbers. CB PAY for Merchants allows merchants to initiate and receive payments by simply entering the mobile number of the customer, along with the item description. The customer then receives an SMS or push notification that leads them to open their CB Mobile application, validate the request and proceed with payment.
The second option enables payment using QR codes. Merchants generate a QR code that can be scanned by the client using their CB Mobile App to complete the payment. This is particularly useful for services where customers pay for items on receipt of goods. Instead of cash on delivery, customers simply scan the QR code and settle the bill using their mobile.
Commenting on the launch, Commercial Bank GCEO Joseph Abraham said, “Commercial Bank is the leader for digital payments in Qatar and this new product is in response to the needs of merchants and their customers for non-face to face and non-cash alternatives for easy payments. It also supports the government’s objectives to promote e-commerce and avoid handling cash. Our CB PAY for Merchants mobile app is a safe, secure, and convenient way to make payments remotely and reduces the reliance on cash for better home shopping and delivery.”
Describing the new product, Commercial Bank EGM and Consumer Banking Head Amit Sah said, “As we redefine the world of payments, CB PAY for Merchants complements the range of services we already offer and continue to develop. It paves the way for a new seamless, cashless, experience for merchants and customers alike.”
CB PAY for Merchants has a range of services and features that will appeal to merchants and retailers of all sizes. The contactless experience assisting remote purchases is welcomed in today’s post COVID-19
environment.
“Merchants and retailers requiring more information can contact their Commercial Bank Relationship Manager, or alternatively call our Contact Centre on 4449 0009,” the bank said in a statement.
Talking to media persons during the virtual event to announce the launch of the app, Sah said the bank has got a very good response from merchants in the pilot phase.
“We have already in talks with over 10 merchants and all of them have shown interest in partnering with us. Currently, we are mainly in talks with retail outlets and delivery companies. Our aim is to engage more and more merchants and cover the entire market,” he said.
