Hotel Park, a family-friendly park located on the Corniche Street in the heart of Doha, participated in the 2020 World Environment Day activities by planting trees in the park.
The World Environment Day is celebrated every year on June 5. This year, the day was hosted in Colombia, in partnership with Germany, under the theme ‘Celebrate Biodiversity’.
As an illustration of Katara Hospitality’s commitment to social responsibility and promoting sustainability, Hotel Park, operated by Mawaqif Qatar, organised a tree-planting session and several saplings were planted in the park.
The session was live streamed on @hotelparkdoha social media platforms to enable the community to participate remotely.
The event was carried out within the strategy of Qatar to increase green areas in the country; the most important component of the strategy is the campaign to ‘plant a million trees’.
The Ministry of Municipality and Environment, represented by the Public Parks Department, has confirmed its support and encouragement to the private sector to take up any initiative that would contribute to increasing the greenery and beautification of the country.
“Hotel Park is a fantastic green space, where we always promote sustainability as one of our core values. Despite of coronavirus pandemic, participating in the 2020 World Environment Day is important for us, as well as for Katara Hospitality.
We want to be part of this day and contribute to the biodiversity that the State of Qatar is promoting at different prime projects, such as the establishment of the biodiversity database,” said Faouzi Boucherit, manager of the Hotel Park.
“We would like to express our sincere appreciation to the Ministry of Municipality and Environment for providing us with the trees as well as for its contribution to making the event a great success, making it a memorable moment,” said Amena Tena, director of Marketing and Communications at Katara Hospitality.
