Lagos Soldiers have killed almost 400 bandits during land and air offensives in northern Nigeria, the army said on Thursday.
The criminals had attacked and killed civilians during raids on villages in the region, army spokesman Major General John Enenche said in a statement.  The heavily armed gangs of bandits regularly raid villages to steal livestock and other goods, while indiscriminately killing whomever gets in their way and kidnapping residents, according to Enenche.
President Muhammadu Buhari ordered the military operation on May 28, after about a hundred gunmen raided several villages in Sokoto State and killed more than 60 people in a single night. (DPA)
