Beirut A Lebanese woman who recently returned from Saudi Arabia is responsible for infecting 42 people with Covid-19 in the village of Barja, south of Beirut, Health Minister Hamad Hassan said on Thursday.
Hassan called on returnees to abide by the self-quarantine rules to avoid “danger for others.” He added that there will be a meeting with mayors across the country on Friday to discuss ways to ensure people arriving from abroad stay home and avoid contact with others.
A Barja resident told dpa that the woman had received many relatives and friends after her arrival, many of whom became infected. He added that some 111 polymerase chain reaction (PCR) coronavirus tests were conducted, focusing on those who have been in contact with her.
On Thursday, Lebanon registered 50 new cases of coronavirus, raising the total number to 1,306. (DPA)
