Wellington New Zealanders took to the streets on Monday in peaceful protests to show solidarity with demonstrations in the United States over the death of George Floyd.
Outrage at Floyd’s death spread across the US from the city of Minneapolis, where Floyd died in police custody. A video surfaced last week of a white police officer kneeling on Floyd’s neck for minutes as he pleads “I can’t breathe.”
In Auckland in New Zealand, a large crowd of several thousand gathered the city centre before marching roughly one kilometre to the US Consulate General, while hundreds of others joined events in Wellington, Christchurch and Dunedin. (DPA)
