Dhaka Bangladesh is relaxing some of the measures imposed nine weeks ago to stem the spread of the novel coronavirus and is to allow public and private offices to reopen from Sunday, an official said on Wednesday.
“The interruption won’t be extended any further,” State Minister of Public Administration Farhad Hossain said in Dhaka.
Public and private offices are to be permitted to reopen, but for a limited number of hours until June 15, and are called on to comply with the government’s health and hygiene directives, he said.
Bangladesh imposed a lockdown on March 26, eight days after the first death due to COVID-19 was reported. The restrictions were then extended until May 30 to slow the spread of the virus.
The South Asian nation reported 38,292 cases of the virus by Wednesday, with 544 deaths. (DPA)
