Ambassador of Ukraine to Qatar HE Andrii Kuzmenko has expressed gratitude to the Qatar government for providing Ukraine with humanitarian medical aid to support the country’s fight against COVID-19 pandemic.
In an official statement released on Wednesday, the envoy said that following the directives of the Amir of Qatar His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al Thani a special flight of Qatar Airways delivered a humanitarian medical aid from Qatar to Ukraine on Tuesday.
The cargo provided by Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD) contained around nine tonnes of coveralls, medical gowns, masks, gloves, goggles and face shields. The official said the items will be immediately handed over to the Ministry of Health of Ukraine for distribution between the country’s hospitals and medical institutions.
“Today, as the entire world addresses the extraordinary global challenge of COVID-19, the State of Qatar demonstrates a strong commitment to a spirit of partnership and mutual assistance. By providing significant and targeted assistance to its foreign partners, Qatar is making remarkable contribution to the global efforts to overcome the pandemic, reaffirming its high prestige in the international arena,” said Ambassador Kuzmenko.
According to the envoy, the humanitarian aid is the result of agreements reached recently between President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky and HH the Amir of Qatar.
He said the issue was also discussed in detail between Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmytro Kuleba and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs of Qatar HE Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman al Thani during their phone conversation held on May 7.
“During the last couple of weeks, we worked tirelessly together with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Qatar, Qatar Fund for Development, Qatari Embassy in Kyiv and our Ukrainian relevant authorities to make this happen,” the envoy added.
He also lauded the strong bilateral relationship between Qatar and Ukraine and further expressed his country’s willingness to cooperate with Qatar in combating COVID-19.
“I would like to emphasise that Ukraine is ready to continue effective cooperation with Qatar in combating COVID-19 and sharing the experience in this field. I am really happy, that especially during the recent years the Ukrainian-Qatari relations has reached new heights, thanks to the intensive political dialogue and acceleration of trade and economic cooperation between our states. There are many important issues on our current bilateral agenda. I am confident that after overcoming the pandemic, Ukraine and Qatar will continue proactive interaction in their implementation,” he said.
