Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Eric Dier has said he and his team-mates are “desperate to get back to playing football” after Premier League clubs returned to training this week.
Clubs have been allowed to conduct training in small groups since Tuesday, with social distancing restrictions and strict rules on non-contact.
“It’s been great,” Dier told the Spurs website. “You really appreciate our training centre when you get back in there.
“We’ve had some great weather and it’s been really enjoyable to get back on the ball and back outside on the training pitches.
“It’s completely different to what we’ve been able to do at home during lockdown.” The Premier League has been suspended since March because of the coronavirus pandemic but is hoping to resume the season in June.
“It’s also been really nice to be able to see people again - from afar,” said Dier. “This has been a very strange experience. Normally our relationship with each other, the club, the staff, is very intense.
“From all the lads I’ve spoken to, everyone is OK, everyone has handled the situation well but we’re all just desperate to get back to playing football now.” Not all players share Dier’s view, however, with Watford captain Troy Deeney and various team-mates refusing to return to training out of health concerns.
