THE Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC) has urged residents to avoid family visits during the Eid Al-Fitr festivities and abide by the precautionary measures to contain the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19).
Dr Misbah Abunahya of Al Daayen Health Center said, “In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, it is preferable to have family communication through social media,” pointing to the need for residents to adhere to hygiene and stay positive, while avoiding rumour mongering about the virus.
Dr Abunahya also advised people to be careful and collect information with regard to the virus only from reliable sources, such as the website of the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) and the website of the World Health Organization (WHO).
He stressed the need to maintain respiratory hygiene, by covering the mouth and nose with a paper napkin, bending the elbow when coughing or sneezing, and avoiding touching the eye, nose and mouth, especially after sneezing and frequent hand washing.
For patients suffering from chronic conditions such as blood pressure, diabetes etc., he suggested regular intake of daily medications.
Dr Misbah also advised residents not to overeat sweets on the first day of Eid Ali-Fitr to avoid gastrointestinal diseases, pointing out that smokers have a great opportunity to quit this habit now.
