Charge d’Affaires at the Malaysian Embassy Mohamad Shahir Sabarudin has appreciated the government of Qatar for its tireless efforts to curb the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19) in the country as well for providing assistance to the residents of Qatar, including Malaysian nationals, in the light of the prevailing situation.
In his official message on the occasion of Eid Al-Fitr, Sabarudin said Prime Minister of Malaysia Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin had a phone conversation early this month with the Amir His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al Thani, during which the two leaders shared information on COVID-19. He said the Malaysian PM had expressed his appreciation to Qatar for the medical treatment and assistance provided to help Malaysians affected by COVID-19 in the country.
“Qatar has facilities and medical capabilities to combat the pandemic. The proactive approach by the Qatari Government to convert Hazm Mebarek General Hospital (HMGH) into a COVID-19 facility and the opening of new field hospitals should be praised,” said Sabarudin.
The official urged all Malaysians in Qatar to adhere to the guidelines set by the Qatari government and to follow the embassy’s social media channels -- Facebook and Twitter -- for the latest updates on the situation.
He also appreciated Qatar Airways for continuing to fly travellers to their destinations, including Malaysian nationals who are stranded in various countries amid the pandemic.
“At this time, Malaysians may still depart from and transit through Qatar. However, they should be prepared for travel restrictions to be put into effect with short or no notice. Passengers are advised to check our real-time Flight Status page for the latest information. Those who want to return to Malaysia are encouraged to make travel arrangements while Qatar Airways flights are still available,” said Sabarudin.
He said the connection provided by Qatar Airways with Kuala Lumpur International Airport is of paramount importance to many Malaysians who are stranded in various countries in the Central Asia, Europe, West Asia and Africa.
On the occasion of Eid Al-Fitr, Sabarudin also reminded Muslims to celebrate the occasion while observing the preventive measures put in place by Qatari authorities.
“Muslims in Qatar and across the world are expected to observe Eid Al-Fitr, which marks the end of Ramadan, in a few more days. This year, Eid Mubarak feels different. In the past, Eid celebration was marked by social and religious gatherings where Muslim families and friends unite together. We will now need to prepare to celebrate Eid largely at home with limited outdoor interaction. This year, in view of the COVID-19, Muslims will have to be doing their part to stem the spread of COVID-19. The Embassy wishes everyone in Qatar a peaceful, healthy and blessed Eid Mubarak,” he said.
Besides, Sabarudin expressed the appreciation of the embassy to all the frontliners in Qatar and all over the world for their dedication and tireless efforts in handling the COVID-19.
