Turkey’s Interior Ministry on Sunday extended travel restrictions for 31 cities and provinces across the country for a further day.
Travel restrictions will now remain in place until midnight on Monday, the Anadolu news agency reported, with a cabinet meeting set to decide whether to extend the restrictions beyond that.
For the past month, 31 cities and provinces, including Istanbul and Ankara, have been largely cut off from the outside world due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The borders of the affected regions remain closed for travel by land, air and sea, with exceptions made only for the transport of essential goods. Residents need a permit to travel between cities.
The government will also on Monday consider relaxing a strict curfew on residents aged 65 and over which has been in place since the end of March, broadcaster CNN Tuerk reported.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan recently presented a staged plan to return to normality.
Erdogan said the temporary curfew has been imposed in the 31 cities and provinces for the past three weekends in a row would last until the end of May.
