Abidjan Ivory Coast Prime Minister Amadou Gon Coulibaly has been evacuated to France, officials in the West African nation confirmed on Sunday.
Secretary General of the Presidency Patrick Achi would not be drawn on whether the prime minister’s medical evacuation on Saturday evening was linked to Covid-19.
Coulibaly has been in self-isolation since March 24 after coming into contact with someone who tested positive for the coronavirus. He came out of self-isolation after only a week, announcing that he had tested negative.
A day before his evacuation, the 61-year-old politician delivered a speech to labour unions as part of Labour Day celebrations on May 1. Coulibaly is poised to stand as the ruling party’s presidential candidate in the October election.
He underwent heart surgery in France in 2012. (DPA)
