GENEVA: Switzerland plans to end its lockdown sooner than originally planned, with shops, markets and schools all set to open on May 11, as well as museums, libraries and restaurants, the government said on Wednesday. Originally, the plan was to reopen restaurants and museums at the beginning of June. The government explained its decision was due to the falling number of new virus infections, showing the effectiveness of the measures imposed to contain the novel coronavirus.
Initially, restaurants are only to be able to seat four people at a table and tables are to be spaced 2 metres apart. However, no large festivals are to be held over the summer, and larger events attended by more than 1,000 people are unlikely to be permitted before September. (DPA)
