Bangkok Thailand’s government plans to extend a state of emergency by a month to curb the spread of the new coronavirus.
Taweesin Visanuyothin, spokesman for the government’s coronavirus task force, said on Monday that the emergency decree will be extended until May 31, pending approval from cabinet ministers who are due to meet on Tuesday.
The decree was enacted on March 26 and was to last until April 30, but it can legally be extended by up to three months.
The extension means Thailand will keep in place measures such as a daily curfew from 10 pm to 4 am, bans on social gatherings, and measures to prevent travelling, Taweesin said. (DPA)
