The Public Works Authority (Ashghal) has set up a 3,000-bed quarantine facility in Umm Slal within 72 hours. The engineering feat comes after the Ministry of Public Health’s request.
Ashghal’s Buildings Projects Department Eng Fatima al Meer said, “With request from MoPH and in coordination with the Ministry of Municipality and Environment, Ashghal set up a 3,000-bed medical quarantine hospital within 72 hours. And the remaining works, which are under way, will be completed very soon to have an 8,000-bed medical quarantine hospital.”
“Upon completion, the Medical Quarantine Complex in Umm Salal will be able to accommodate 12,500 beds,” she said.
Ashghal’s Buildings Projects Department Eng Thafir al Ahbabi said, “The field quarantine hospital has a recreational facility that can engage 600 people in various sports activities along with iPads. A dining room to serve 900 people has been set up, taking into consideration social distancing while seating.”
