Qatar’s strategic reserve of food commodities can last for more than a year, Minister of Commerce and Industry HE Ali bin Ahmed al Kuwari said Wednesday.
He said the state’s import policies continue at the same pace without any change.
He called on suppliers, outlets and local manufacturers to play their role in providing goods in the demanded quantities by consumers.
This came during a visit made by the minister to a number of supermarkets to get a close look at the strategic stock of food products and commodities, and to gain insight into the demand patterns of citizens and residents.
He said all the products of consumer need are readily available, as the imports are continuing without disruption.
Kuwari said retailers can play a key role in ensuring the stability of the market by providing the needs of the consumers and constantly restocking shelves.
He stressed that the ministry is addressing any shortcomings as it is constantly monitoring the market to ensure the availability of food and consumer products in all outlets. There is strong coordination with suppliers to ensure imports continue normally and the prices have been stable, he added.
The minister stressed that any outlet that tries to take advantage of the crisis will face closure and a fine in accordance with consumer protection Law No 8 of 2008.
