Jakarta Several passengers travelling on a ferry jumped into the sea and swam ashore off Indonesia’s Flores island after three people on board showed symptoms of the new coronavirus, an official said on Wednesday.
The ferry’s crew asked to dock at Maumere port in Flores on Tuesday but the request was rejected, prompting the passengers to jump ship, said Wisnu Handoko, the Transportation Ministry’s director for sea navigation.
The ferry, which was sailing from Borneo to Sulawesi island, was finally allowed to make port and the passengers who jumped were rescued, he said. (DPA)
