New Zealand on Monday reported 67 new cases of the novel coronavirus, bringing the total number to 1106.
At a news conference, New Zealand’s Director General of Health Ashley Bloomfield said 176 patients have recovered.
Only one person in New Zealand has died so far as a result of complications from Covid-19, the disease caused by the virus. The largest cluster of cases, 72, is connected to a secondary school in Auckland, Bloomfield said.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern announced that some 876,000 people had accessed a government wage subsidy scheme, developed to help businesses and affected workers in the short-term, as they adjust to the initial impact of Covid-19.
The scheme had so far paid out 5.3 billion New Zealand dollars (3.1 US dollars).
The government expects the scheme to cost between $4.7 and $7 billion in total.
