Cairo Libya’s former prime minister Mahmoud Jebril died on Sunday after developing Covid-19, the respiratory disease caused by the new coronavirus, Libyan media reported.
His death, in a Cairo hospital at the age of 68, was confirmed by his former party, the National Forces Alliance (NFA).
Jebril served as prime minister for eight months in 2011 after the eruption of an armed revolt that toppled Libya’s long-time dictator Moamer Gaddafi.
The NFA offered its condolences to Jebril’s family without specifying the cause of his death or where he passed away.
Late last month, the alliance said Jebril had tested positive for the coronavirus.
So far, there has been no official comment in Cairo. (DPA)
