Amman Banks reopened in Jordan on Monday, more than a week after they were closed as part of the kingdom’s measures to curb the spread of the novel coronavirus.
“You must wear a mask and gloves while visiting the branch and keep at least 2 metres between you and other clients,” read a text message banks have sent to their clients.
People queued outside banks as security personnel organized the lines and ensured there was enough distance between individuals.
The central bank said banks will operate with the minimum number of employees and will carry out basic services, including handling cash deposits and checks for traders, as well as salary withdrawals for people who cannot do it through a cash machine.
Banks have been closed for more than a week since Jordan started imposing measures to stop the spread of the coronavirus, closing all institutions, except those in vital sectors, and imposing an indefinite curfew. (DPA)
